Studio Visit: Lauren Luloff

During Friday's NY trip to Brooklyn and Queens we visited the studios of Angela Dufresne and Lauren Luloff. Lauren's studio was a combination of greenhouse, studio space and living nook that she inhabits alongside her many many works. There was a large range of size and scale in her work from small 4" x 4" watercolors to large three dimensional painting apparatuses. Here are some photos of her with the students, explaining her working process and how she got to where she is today since graduating undergrad in 2001.

After lunch we went to PS.1 for the Greater New York show. Personally a little underwhelming, but feel free to compare and contrast to the Whitney Biennial...

Group Crit 3: The Boundaries of Painting

Another productive night of discussions on Thursday with a critique of work that is questioning its identity in relation to painting history. Katherine Carl was our visiting critic, which tied in with her seminar discussion topics regarding multiple authorship and the boundaries of painting as a practice. Work by Ben Kaplan, Maureen St. Vincent, Becca Lynn, Erika Stearly, Baylee Burrowes and Raphael Cohen, below.

Joe Bradley 7/13

This week's visiting artist is NYC based painter Joe Bradley. Represented by Canada Gallery, Bradley was in the 2008 Whitney Biennial, and recently had a two person show with Chris Martin at Mitchell-Innes & Nash. His lecture will be held at 12pm.
